Slick Removals is a professional man and van, house removals, and clearance company based in South Wigston LE18. A registered limited company (no. 10717337) established in 2017, we serve Leicester and all of Leicestershire, with every job led personally by the DBS-checked owner. As a Checkatrade Approved and Vetted Member (ID 1140020), our business identity, insurance, and trading status have been independently verified. We have over 500 customer reviews on Google at 5.0/5, over 250 on Trustpilot rated Excellent, and over 90 verified reviews on Checkatrade at 9.9/10.

We handle everything from a single item to lightly furnished 4-bedroom houses. We also offer furniture disposal before or after your move. We use a fully equipped medium-wheelbase Vauxhall Movano, specifically sized to navigate Leicester's tight streets and narrow parking. By parking closer to your door and stepping straight into the van without the slow cycle of a tail lift, we work faster to keep your hourly bill to a minimum.

Our rates within Leicestershire are £59/hr for a 1-man service or £89/hr for a 2-man team (VAT inclusive). We operate a standard 2-hour minimum for most moves, but offer a 1-hour minimum (£59) for local 1-man jobs of up to 3 items within Leicester city booked on the same day. We bill fairly in 5-minute increments thereafter, with no hidden fees, no stairs charges, and no local call-out fees. A £50 deposit secures your date and is fully deducted from your final bill, with the clock starting on arrival and stopping when your last item is safely in place.

1-Man Service — £59/hr (VAT Included)

1-Man Service — £59/hr (VAT Included)

1-Man Service — £59/hr (VAT Included)

Our 1-man service is our most cost-effective option. Because our driver expertly packs and secures the van, this service works perfectly if you have at least one fit helper available to assist with the heavy lifting. This setup is ideal for single-item collections, student relocations, and house moves where friends or family are ready to help.

Please note that your helper (a family member, friend, or neighbour) must be physically capable of carrying heavy, bulky items like sofas, washing machines, and wardrobes. If you have extra hands at both ends, this 1-man option can comfortably handle surprisingly large moves while keeping your bill as low as possible. If you are unsure whether this setup will work for your move, call us and we will advise you honestly

2-Man Team — £89/hr (VAT Included)

1-Man Service — £59/hr (VAT Included)

1-Man Service — £59/hr (VAT Included)

Our 2-man team is the right choice when no helper is available, or when you simply prefer a completely hands-off experience where you just point and we lift. We handle absolutely all the heavy lifting, navigating, and van packing for you. This service is ideal for larger 3 or 4-bedroom house removals, or moves with multiple heavy items and appliances.

For larger moves, having two professionals on-site is usually the most time-efficient option overall. We get the van loaded faster and safely navigate stairs and tight corners, keeping your moving day running smoothly and stress-free.

Minimum Charge & Billing

1-Man Service — £59/hr (VAT Included)

Typical Move Times and Costs in Leicester

A 2-hour minimum applies to standard pre-booked moves — £118 for the 1-man service or £178 for the 2-man team. We also offer a 1-hour minimum (£59) for local 1-man jobs of up to 3 items within Leicester city booked on the same day.

After your minimum is met, time is billed fairly in 5-minute increments so you only ever pay for the actual time worked. There is no per-trip charge; if your move needs more than one van load, the clock simply keeps running without any hidden fees.

Typical Move Times and Costs in Leicester

How Preparation Lowers Your Moving Cost in Leicester

Typical Move Times and Costs in Leicester

To give you an idea of typical move times based on our 2-man team, a 1-bed flat usually takes 2 to 3 hours (£178–£267), while a 2-bed house takes 3 to 5 hours (£267–£445). For larger properties, a 3-bed house typically requires 5 to 8 hours (£445–£712), and a 4-bed house takes 8 to 10 hours or more (£712–£890).

Please note that these are realistic estimates based on our experience in Leicester. Your final bill is always determined by the actual time worked on the day. Practical factors such as how much you have, the presence of heavy items like American fridge-freezers, parking distance from your door, the number of stairs, and how well you are packed will directly affect the speed and final cost of your move.

How Preparation Lowers Your Moving Cost in Leicester

How Preparation Lowers Your Moving Cost in Leicester

How Preparation Lowers Your Moving Cost in Leicester

Customers who prepare well before moving day consistently pay less. One Leicester customer was quoted £800 by a fixed-price removal company. Because they were well-prepared on the day, their final bill with us was just £217.50 — a massive saving simply because they only paid for the actual time worked.

The "Prepare and Save" Guide: How to Get Our Best Rates

2. Expert Packing (Protecting Your Items)

1. Furniture & Appliance Prep

Because we bill hourly for local moves, your preparation directly affects your final cost. The more prepared you are, the faster we work—and speed equals savings!

1. Furniture & Appliance Prep

2. Expert Packing (Protecting Your Items)

1. Furniture & Appliance Prep

  • Decluttering & Disposal: Don't pay us to move things you no longer need! Whether you want a separate pre-move clear-out or just need us to take away unwanted furniture and junk on moving day itself, let us know. Disposing of items responsibly means less to unload at your new home and keeps your moving day fast and efficient.

  • Dismantle in Advance: Large furniture like beds and wardrobes can add hours to a move. Having these dismantled before we arrive is the #1 way to keep costs down.

Of course, if you would prefer a completely hands-off experience, we are more than happy to handle all dismantling and reassembly for you.

  • Empty All Drawers: Full drawers make furniture dangerously heavy and can snap the joints on flat-pack units.

  • Fridge & Freezer Care: Units must be empty and defrosted. Since our L2H2 van is a high-roof (but not an extra-high top), tall fridges may need to travel lying down. Important: You must wait at least 3 hours before switching them back on to allow the compressor fluids to settle.

  • Washing Machines: We can disconnect these if the water isolation tap is working. If the tap is seized or brittle, we cannot safely unplumb it due to leak risks. Note: We cannot disconnect hardwired electric or gas ovens.

2. Expert Packing (Protecting Your Items)

2. Expert Packing (Protecting Your Items)

2. Expert Packing (Protecting Your Items)

  • Stage to the Ground Floor: Stairs add the most time to any job. Moving boxes and small furniture to the ground floor or garage before we arrive is a massive time-saver.

  • Keep Lids Flat: Please ensure box tops are flat and taped shut. Bulging lids mean we can’t stack items on top safely. Flat lids allow us to create a stable, secure load.

  • Bags for "Gaps": Strong, closed bags (like laundry bags or heavy-duty bin bags) are perfectly fine for clothing, bedding, and soft items. These are actually helpful as they let us fill in small gaps in the van! Please do not use bags for fragile or heavy items.

  • Weight & Consistency: Try to keep boxes at a manageable weight. Using uniform-sized boxes is a huge bonus—they stack perfectly and keep the load stable.

  • TVs & Delicate Items: Flat-screen TVs are best in their original boxes. Without them, we must use extra blankets and securing time, which adds to the clock.

3. A Little Help with Parking

3. A Little Help with Parking

2. Expert Packing (Protecting Your Items)

  • Space for the Van: Ideally, we need a parking spot about 1.5 car lengths right outside your door. This provides a safe "loading zone" at the back of the van and keeps the carry distance short.

  • Keeping it Simple: We always aim to park legally. However, if no legal parking is available and we receive a parking fine while carrying out your move, the cost of the ticket will be added to your final balance.

  • Slick Tip: Asking a neighbor to save a spot or placing a couple of bins out the night before usually solves any parking puzzles!

4. Safety & Assistance

3. A Little Help with Parking

4. Safety & Assistance

  • Children and Pets: For everyone’s safety, please ensure children and pets are in a separate room or with a sitter so we can move heavy items without interruption.

  • Lending a Hand: If you’re feeling fit and want to help with the lifting, we’d love the help! It gets the job done faster and keeps your hourly total to a minimum.

What's Included in the Hourly Rate

Everything we bring is geared towards one thing: the fastest, smoothest move possible. Because you're paying by the hour, the right van and the right equipment directly lower your final bill — they cut carry distances, prevent the delays that waste your money, and protect your home and belongings from damage. We don't use the cheapest tools; we use the right tools for the job.

The Van — Right-Sized for Leicester & Leicestershire Streets

Inside the Slick Removals medium-wheelbase man and van in Leicester, showing the clean loading space

We use a medium-wheelbase Vauxhall Movano, chosen specifically because it actually fits on Leicester’s narrow terraced streets and tight driveways. While oversized Luton vans often have to park streets away, we can usually park right at your front door. This drastically cuts down the walking distance, which keeps the job moving and your hourly bill as low as possible.

Our setup is also much faster than a van with a tail lift. A mechanical lift makes you wait 30–60 seconds to go up and down for every single item. With our low-loading floor and a heavy-duty Milenco Giant step, we simply walk your furniture straight in. It is a much quicker, more fluid way to work.

Finally, we offer a level of security that a Luton van can’t match. While a Luton’s big rear shutter is often left wide open for the whole job, our twin rear and side doors allow us to easily close and lock the van every time we walk back to your house. This keeps your belongings safe and secure in busy areas while we are busy with the lifting.

Preparation and Floor Protection

Specialist Lifting and Manoeuvring

We start protecting your home the moment we arrive. We carry a professional entrance mat to catch dirt and moisture at the doorway, alongside heavy-duty door stops to keep access routes open and the momentum moving. To save time on furniture, we carry a full toolkit for assembly and disassembly, including a Makita DTD157Z 18V cordless impact driver and a SabreCut impact-rated bit set — this lets us take sofa legs and bed frames off in seconds rather than minutes. Even our gloves are chosen deliberately — thermal grip gloves that give a secure hold on furniture and appliances in cold or wet conditions, reducing the risk of slips and drops.

Specialist Lifting and Manoeuvring

Specialist Lifting and Manoeuvring

Specialist Lifting and Manoeuvring

For heavy appliances and white goods, we use a genuine Magliner sack truck fitted with large 10-inch pneumatic tyres. Unlike cheap trolleys with small solid wheels that jar over bumps, our pneumatic tyres roll smoothly over raised door thresholds and gravel, giving items like washing machines a much safer ride. It also features built-in stair sliders, so we can glide heavy items down steps instead of bumping them.
When a hallway is too narrow to pivot a trolley, we switch to Shoulder Dolly lifting straps. This lets our team carry bulky, awkward items — like American fridge-freezers — completely upright, creating a slimmer profile for navigating tight turns and difficult doorways with total control and zero floor damage.

Heavy Loads and Precision Moving

Specialist Lifting and Manoeuvring

Heavy Loads and Precision Moving

For exceptionally heavy or long items, we use an Evo Super piano skate with 200mm elastic wheels and a moulded rubber bumper to protect your walls. The advantage of these larger wheels is the significant ground clearance they provide; they raise your furniture much higher than a standard dolly, ensuring the base of your items clears uneven pavements, gravel, or high thresholds without scuffing. The wheels can be set to full swivel, which is vital for twisting large sideboards or sofas through tight internal spaces.

For specialist loading, we carry a Sealey PAR01 portable access ramp rated to 450kg that locks securely into the floor rail of our van side sliding door. We don't use this for every item, but it is a key tool for safely loading washing machines during one-man moves or for precisely controlling the movement of extremely heavy items—such as a 5kw log burner—without the strain or risks of manual lifting.

Protection and Securing the Load

Specialist Lifting and Manoeuvring

Heavy Loads and Precision Moving

We're just as careful with the small details. Instead of tape that leaves a sticky residue on your furniture, we secure items with heavy-duty moving rubber bands — these keep drawers shut and fridge doors locked in place without damaging the finish. To protect against scuffs and scratches, we carry quilted transit blankets for wrapping furniture, a mattress bag with carry handles, and surface-saver sliders for moving heavy appliances across floors without marking them. To keep everything stable in transit, we secure items to custom lashing points using UK-made Taut-Strap cam buckles, Bison Gear endless straps, and a full set of Master Lock bungee cords.

Who Is Our Leicester Man and Van Service Best For?

Slick Removals works best for customers who do their own packing and are completely ready to go on the day. We handle everything from single-item collections and student moves up to lightly furnished 3 and 4-bedroom house removals.

An Honest Approach to Larger Moves (3 & 4 Bedrooms)

Because we operate a 2-man team with a medium-wheelbase van, moving a large family home requires a realistic, collaborative approach.

To complete a large house move safely in a single day, our setup can only work when:

Furniture is pre-dismantled: Taking apart and reassembling multiple beds and large wardrobes takes hours. Having this done before we arrive is mandatory so we have the time and energy to move the high volume of heavy items.

You focus on the small stuff: We use our expertise for the heavy lifting — your sofas, white goods, and heavy furniture — while you handle moving the smaller boxes and personal items in your own vehicles.

The move is local: Because we don't charge per trip, local moves where we can run fast, efficient shuttle runs between properties make this approach possible.

If you are looking for a completely hands-off service where a massive crew packs your boxes and dismantles everything for you, a traditional, large-scale HGV removals company is a better fit. But if you are willing to do the groundwork to save hundreds of pounds on a large move, we are the perfect team for the job.

Deposit, Rescheduling, and Payment Terms

3 Steps to Secure Your Date

Booking Slick Removals is a straightforward, three-step process designed to get your move scheduled without the stress.

3 Steps to Secure Your Date

Deposit, Rescheduling, and Payment Terms

3 Steps to Secure Your Date

1) Check Availability: Call or WhatsApp us on 07934 722569 with your moving date and postcodes. As an owner-operated service, we usually provide an instant answer on availability.

2) Confirm the Details: Share your addresses, access details (stairs or parking), and whether you need a 1-man or 2-man service. Most importantly, please flag any exceptionally heavy, high-value, or unusual items now so we can arrive fully prepared with the right equipment and loading strategy.

3) Secure Your Slot: A £50 deposit via bank transfer locks in your arrival window. This amount is fully deducted from your final bill on the day.

Deposit, Rescheduling, and Payment Terms

Deposit, Rescheduling, and Payment Terms

Deposit, Rescheduling, and Payment Terms

To keep our rates competitive and our schedule reliable for all customers, we operate the following professional terms:

  • The Deposit: The £50 deposit is non-refundable if you cancel. Because we turn away other bookings to hold your specific date and time, this ensures our team's schedule remains secure.

  • Rescheduling: We understand that move dates can shift. You may reschedule your booking once, provided you give us at least 48 hours' notice. The new date must be within 7 days of the original booking and is subject to our current availability.

  • Our Guarantee: In the unlikely event that we have to cancel for any reason, your deposit is refunded in full, immediately.

  • Final Payment: Payment is due upon completion of the move, before the driver leaves the site. Bank transfer is our preferred method, but we also accept cash and all major credit/debit cards. Unlike many providers, we have no card surcharges and all prices include VAT.

Vetted, Reviewed, and Trusted

We established the business in 2017, originally specialising in the sale and national delivery of premium glass furniture. This background in high-risk, fragile transport is what defines our handling standards today.

How can I reduce my moving costs in Leicester?

Is it better to hire a van or use a professional man and van in Leicester?

What is included in the hourly rate for a man and van in Leicester?

The best way to keep moving costs down is preparation. Being 100% packed in uniform boxes, dismantling large furniture in advance, and reserving a parking space close to your door will significantly speed up the move and lower your final bill. Our £59/hr 1-man service is also our most cost-effective option if you have a fit helper available for the heavy lifting.

Is it better to hire a van or use a professional man and van in Leicester?

Hiring a professional man and van is usually better value because it includes the van, fuel, heavy-lifting equipment, and transit insurance — without the £500+ deposits or hidden damage risks of rental companies. For £59/hr or £89/hr, we handle the driving, the efficient van packing, and the physical strain.

If you've already hired a larger van for extra capacity, we can still act as your loading and offloading team — you drive the rented van, we handle the lifting at both ends. For larger moves, you can also run two vans on the same day: you drive your hired Luton with one load while our Movano runs alongside with a second load, completing the move in a single trip.

Yes, dismantling and reassembling beds, wardrobes, and flat-pack furniture is included in our hourly rate at no extra charge. We carry a full set of tools on the van. However, we always recommend dismantling items in advance to keep your hourly bill as low as possible.

Which areas in Leicestershire do you cover, and do you handle long-distance moves?

If you are delayed getting your keys, the hourly billing clock continues running. This is because we have reserved that time exclusively for you and turned away other bookings. We will use the waiting time to bring items as close to the door as possible to ensure rapid unloading once you have access. If you think there is a risk of a delay, let us know in advance so we can agree on the best arrival time.

Yes. We carry goods-in-transit insurance to cover your belongings while they're in our care, and public liability insurance to cover any accidental damage to your property during the move. To help us protect your items, please pack boxes carefully and let us know in advance about anything exceptionally high-value, fragile, or unusual. Customer-packed boxes that fail in transit due to poor packing are the customer's responsibility, which is standard across the removals industry.

Look for a registered limited company with a DBS-checked owner-operator, independently verified reviews across multiple platforms, and transparent hourly rates. Check Companies House to confirm the business is actively trading, and look for reviews on Checkatrade (manually verified before publication) and Trustpilot alongside Google. Slick Removals is a registered limited company (no. 10717337) with over 500 Google reviews at 5.0/5, over 250 Trustpilot reviews rated Excellent, and over 90 manually verified Checkatrade reviews at 9.9/10. Booking directly with a local owner-operator avoids the lead fees and accountability gaps of national marketplace platforms, where the person who takes your booking is often not the one who turns up.

Case Study: 3-Storey House Move & Tight Parking Logistics (Market Harborough, LE16)

Case Study: 3-Storey House Move & Tight Parking Logistics (Market Harborough, LE16)

This was a high-capacity move from Shurgard Leicester into a residential property in Knighton (LE2). The job involved shifting a massive volume of around 90 boxes, alongside some exceptionally heavy items, including a solid super-king mattress.

Because the customer had secured a ground-floor storage unit, we were able to completely bypass the usual bottleneck of waiting for industrial lifts. This allowed our 2-man team to load the van at maximum speed.

To get the absolute best value out of our hourly rate, the customer and a family member stepped in to help at the delivery address. We set up a highly efficient "chain" to pass boxes straight from the van into the property. Combining our rapid loading at the storage facility with their teamwork at the house meant the entire job—loading, transit, and unloading—was fully completed in just 2.5 hours.

Case Study: 3-Storey House Move & Tight Parking Logistics (Market Harborough, LE16)

This move from a 3-storey property in Market Harborough (LE16) perfectly highlights the real-world advantage of our van setup. Parking on the street was severely restricted. The customer had smartly saved a small gap outside using two wheelie bins, but it was an incredibly tight squeeze.

If we had arrived in a bulky Luton van, we wouldn't have fit. We would have been forced to park far down the street or on the opposite side of the road—wasting the customer's hourly rate standing on the kerb waiting for traffic to clear before crossing safely. Instead, our medium-wheelbase Movano slotted right into the gap. Space was so tight at the rear that we simply opened our side sliding door and began loading straight off the pavement to get the clock moving immediately.

Inside, the customer had prepared brilliantly to maximize their value. Despite it being a large 3-storey house, they had brought virtually everything down to the ground floor, leaving only a bed, two massive mattresses, and a chest of drawers upstairs for our 2-man team to handle. We also safely extracted large, heavy plant pots from the garden using our heavy-duty sack truck and secured a long ladder to the van's roof rails.

Because the new property was only 5 minutes away, doing multiple rapid trips was significantly faster than struggling to park a massive lorry. The couple was incredibly hands-on at the delivery end to keep the momentum going. While we took the heavy furniture upstairs, we unloaded the majority of the boxes directly into the living room. While we drove back for the next load, they sorted and distributed the boxes throughout the house.

By combining their excellent staging with our tight-access parking and rapid turnaround, we turned a huge volume move into a highly efficient, seamless operation.

Case Study: Student Move & Shared Load Value (Loughborough, LE11)

Case Study: 3-Storey House Move & Tight Parking Logistics (Market Harborough, LE16)

Case Study: Staged Move & High-Efficiency Van Packing (Wigston, LE18)

This student relocation to a town-centre flat in Loughborough (LE11) perfectly demonstrates how we tackle difficult internal geometry. The pickup was highly efficient: everything, including a large, heavy sideboard, was staged on the ground floor, allowing us to load the van rapidly.

The delivery address, however, was a completely different story. Accessing the flat meant navigating through a front garden to a mesh verandah that completely blocked straight-on access to the front door. We had to approach the entrance from the side, physically tipping the large sideboard on its edge just to clear the verandah fence and squeeze through the frame.

Inside, the space was even tighter. Directly behind the front door sat a massive utility meter, leading into a tiny, dead-end corridor with a staircase off to the side. To keep the job moving fast despite the physical bottlenecks, we divided and conquered. While the students took charge of shuttling the smaller boxes and bags inside, our 2-man team executed the precise heavy lifting: maneuvering the sideboard into the dead end, physically closing the front door behind us to clear the swing-space, and hoisting it safely up the stairs.

Because we problem-solved the access route instead of trying to force it, and because the customers were hands-on with the small items, we completed the heavy lifting smoothly with time still remaining on the clock. Rather than driving off, we used that remaining time to help the student’s friend move their belongings into the exact same building—delivering massive, transparent value on a single hourly booking.

Case Study: Staged Move & High-Efficiency Van Packing (Wigston, LE18)

Case Study: Saving Money with Hourly Rates vs Fixed Quotes (Knighton, LE2)

Case Study: Staged Move & High-Efficiency Van Packing (Wigston, LE18)

This move in Wigston (LE18) involved moving the contents of a garage full of pre-packed boxes and furniture. Because the customer had already staged everything ready to go, the physical lifting was straightforward. Our main focus was on maximizing exactly how much we could safely fit into the van per trip to save them time on their hourly booking.

Proper van packing is about more than just filling space. To make the most of the van's capacity without risking damage, we use a consistent, proven method. We load the heavy, bulky furniture first to create a solid, stable base and distribute the weight evenly. Lighter boxes and softer items are then stacked securely on top, taking the load all the way up to the ceiling.

Because of the van's size, a full load actually secures itself when packed to the brim. By packing tightly floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall, the items naturally lock each other into place, leaving no gaps for anything to shift during transit. Packing with this level of efficiency maximized the volume of the trip and ensured a fast, safe move.

Case Study: Cost-Effective Furniture Move (Quorn, LE12 to Nottingham)

Case Study: Saving Money with Hourly Rates vs Fixed Quotes (Knighton, LE2)

Case Study: Saving Money with Hourly Rates vs Fixed Quotes (Knighton, LE2)

This relocation from Quorn (LE12) to Nottingham was primarily focused on moving furniture. To keep the final bill as low as possible, the customer chose a smart, cost-effective approach: they booked our one-man van service and pitched in to help with the heavy lifting at both the pickup and the drop-off.

For longer-distance moves across county lines, clear communication is essential. We always make sure customers fully understand how the hourly rate works for distance jobs, which simply covers the loading time, the travel time, and the unloading time. Because all the access details and expectations were agreed upon upfront, there were absolutely no hidden costs or surprises on the day.

Working closely together as a team, we got the van loaded quickly and efficiently. The journey was smooth, and all the furniture arrived in Nottingham in perfect condition. By choosing this "hybrid" one-man option and helping keep the clock moving, the customer secured a highly professional, stress-free move at a very fair price.

Case Study: Saving Money with Hourly Rates vs Fixed Quotes (Knighton, LE2)

Case Study: Saving Money with Hourly Rates vs Fixed Quotes (Knighton, LE2)

This local house move in Knighton (LE2) is a perfect example of how an hourly rate can offer significant savings. The job included a standard house load plus a heavy electric piano. The customer had previously received a fixed-price quote of £800 from another removal company, but they decided to book our transparent hourly service instead.

The main challenge was at the delivery point. The new property was situated in an enclosed courtyard shared by three or four houses, with very tight access restricted by narrow bollards and low-hanging tree branches. The customer fully expected that we wouldn't be able to park inside, warning us in advance that there would be quite a long walk from the road to the front door.

This is where vehicle choice directly impacts the final bill. A standard Luton van has a wide box body that would have been completely blocked by the bollards, alongside a fragile fibreglass roof that would be damaged by the low branches. This would have forced a Luton to park out on the main road, charging the customer for all that extra walking time.

Because our medium-wheelbase van has a narrower body and a solid metal roof, the bollards and branches weren't a problem. While we couldn't drive in front-ways, we simply reversed right past the obstacles and parked securely inside the courtyard.

Eliminating that long walk from the road kept the unloading phase incredibly fast. We safely moved the electric piano and the rest of the furniture straight into the house. Because the customer only paid for the exact time we worked, their final bill came to just £217.50, proving exactly why an hourly rate is so cost-effective when you have an efficient team and the right vehicle.

Case Study: House Move & On-Site Problem Solving (Countesthorpe, LE8 to Melton Mowbray, LE13)

This small house move from Countesthorpe (LE8) to Melton Mowbray (LE13) was going smoothly until we hit a very common moving-day headache. The customer had tried to save time by dismantling their furniture beforehand, but some of the bolts had become completely rounded off, leaving the items stuck together and impossible to move safely.

When a move is on the clock, a stuck bolt can easily turn into a massive time sink if the crew isn't prepared. Rather than delaying the job, forcing the fittings, or leaving the furniture behind, we simply opened our toolkit. By using a set of mole grips (locking pliers), we were able to firmly clamp onto the damaged heads and safely extract the bolts on the spot without ruining the furniture frame.

By solving the problem immediately, we kept the momentum going. Even with the extra dismantling work and the drive out to Melton Mowbray, the entire move—loading, transit, and unloading—was fully completed in under 3 hours.

It is a perfect example of how carrying a proper toolkit prevents small problems from turning into big time losses on your hourly bill.

Case Study: American Fridge Freezer Rescue (Swadlincote, DE11)

Case Study: House Move & On-Site Problem Solving (Countesthorpe, LE8 to Melton Mowbray, LE13)

Case Study: House Move & On-Site Problem Solving (Countesthorpe, LE8 to Melton Mowbray, LE13)

We received a call on a Friday afternoon from a customer in Swadlincote (DE11) who was in a tough spot. A standard delivery company had abandoned a massive American fridge freezer at the end of her side alleyway near the garden entrance because they couldn't figure out how to get it inside.

We assessed the situation and decided the best approach was to take the fridge doors off to reduce its depth. Because the alleyway was too cramped to work in, we first used our heavy-duty sack truck to wheel the appliance all the way out to the front of the house just to get enough space to safely remove the doors.

We initially hoped to bring it straight through the front door, but a quick inspection ruled that out. The kitchen door was immediately to the right of the main hallway and obstructed by a structural pillar, making the turning angle physically impossible.

We pivoted to plan B and wheeled the now-doorless fridge all the way back down the alleyway to the rear garden entrance. This access point featured a very tight 45-degree turn. Even with the doors removed, trying to swing the appliance around that corner on the sack truck wasn't going to work. The problem wasn't the width—it was the length. To move a sack truck, you have to lean the load back. Leaning a massive American fridge back drastically extends its horizontal profile, which completely destroys your turning circle in tight spaces.

To solve the geometry problem, we switched to our Shoulder Dolly lifting straps. By carrying the fridge completely upright between our two-man team, we kept its profile as short as possible. This gave us the exact clearance we needed to safely step through the tight 45-degree turn and walk it straight through the back patio doors. Once it was safely in the kitchen, we reassembled the doors and maneuvered it into its final spot without a single scratch to the property.

Case Study: House Move & On-Site Problem Solving (Countesthorpe, LE8 to Melton Mowbray, LE13)

Case Study: Large House Move & Elite Customer Prep (Northampton, NN1)

This relocation to a 7-bedroom house in Northampton (NN1) is the ultimate example of how heavy customer preparation makes a massive move possible on an hourly rate.

The pickup was at a duplex first-floor flat. When we arrived, the couple had already done an incredible amount of groundwork. They had dismantled all the large furniture, brought it down to the main floor, and were actively running the smaller boxes out while we worked.

The main physical obstacle was a massive mattress left on the top floor of the duplex. It was physically too large to fit down the tight internal staircase flat. The customers had been trying to tie it in half using standard ropes, which rarely holds tension safely. We stepped in with our professional Bison Gear endless straps, securely folding and locking the heavy mattress in half so it could be easily and safely carried downstairs without springing open.

At the delivery point, the efficiency continued. Moving into a 7-bedroom house can easily turn into chaos if the movers constantly have to stop and ask where things belong. Instead, the customers had clearly labeled all their boxes and gave us a quick tour upfront, pointing out exactly which rooms were bedrooms one through seven.

This level of organization meant we could just walk in, drop the items in the correct rooms, and head straight back out to the van to maintain a steady, rapid pace all day. Completing a heavy move of this size requires stamina, but it was only achieved so efficiently because of the customer's groundwork.
