The Job:

This bereavement clearance came through after the customer saw our pricing online and requested a quote visit. 

We went to the property to confirm the scope before the job began. The family had already removed personal effects and rehomed the TV and fridge, which meant we could focus entirely on the furniture and bulky items.

The largest challenge was a substantial curved corner sofa in the front living room. 

The living room door sat directly opposite the main entrance — leaving almost no turning space. 

To get the largest section out, we had to rotate it vertically to stand it upright in the narrow hallway, then work it through the angle to the front door.

The height and curve of the sofa made this a two-stage operation requiring precise coordination to avoid damage to the door frames and walls.

The sofa had all fire safety labels intact so we took it to Age UK at Gypsum Close first.

Unfortunately they rejected it due to a fault, so it went to T. Watts for responsible disposal.

Two of the upstairs wardrobes had missing components, making them impossible to donate and not worth the risk of carrying down the stairs intact. 

Rather than attempt it and needlessly risk the walls and banisters, we dismantled them in situ and brought the panels down piece by piece. The wood went straight to the wood recycling skip at Gypsum Close.

The garden contained two sets of garden furniture and a large trampoline that the family had already disassembled before we arrived. This made loading significantly more efficient and meant the metal frame went straight to recycling.

We completed a full tiered disposal run at Gypsum Close trade waste facility:

• Usable beds and furniture donated to Age UK
  Wood panels from dismantled wardrobes to the wood recycling skip

• Disassembled trampoline frame and metal to the metal recycling bin

• Remaining waste to general waste

• Nothing left the property without a clear destination.

We recommend being present where possible — it means you can confirm exactly what is being removed as we go, and make any last-minute decisions on the spot. 

Most of our customers are there on the day. If you genuinely cannot attend due to distance or bereavement circumstances, we can discuss access arrangements and will send you a video confirmation once the property is cleared.

This depends on the state of the property when we arrive. If personal effects such as clothing, paperwork, and sentimental items have already been sorted and removed by the family, most Leicester 2-3 bedroom homes are cleared within a single day — typically 5 hours with our two-man team.
If the property hasn't been pre-sorted and you need us to work through personal effects as well, clearance can take 2-3 days. 

Kitchens in particular take significant extra time. This is reflected in the final cost. We will give you a realistic time and price estimate based on the current state of the property when you book.

We follow a charity-first policy. Usable items with fire safety labels intact are offered to local charities such as Age UK before anything goes to disposal. What cannot be donated is taken to a licensed facility for responsible recycling. Nothing is fly-tipped.

We cannot remove asbestos, hazardous chemicals, batteries or medical waste. If you are unsure about a specific item, contact us and we will advise. All other standard household furniture, appliances, and general waste is covered under our standard package.

If the volume of items is unclear upfront, we offer an hourly rate of £89 per hour for a two-man team rather than a fixed price. 

Time starts when we arrive and ends when the job is complete. Tip and disposal fees are charged at the facility invoice price — we provide you with a copy of the tip receipt for full transparency — plus a 10% handling charge. All tip charges are confirmed with you before each run and added to your daily bill.

All bookings require a £50 deposit to secure your date. For fixed-price jobs, payment is taken in agreed stages — for example, on a £1,500 clearance a portion is taken at the end of day one with the balance on completion. 

For hourly jobs, each day is settled at the end of that working day including any tip fees and handling charges incurred. Final payment is taken once the job is done. We accept cash, bank transfer, card, Google Pay, and Apple Pay.
